Ray Ban Sunglasses & Ray Ban Eyeglasses
Ray Ban, is there any other maker of eye wear that speaks more to the American way of life? Definitely not. They are the alpha and omega of cool eye wear, whether on the beach or on the boulevard. For athletes, actors or models, Ray Bans are the 'go to' glasses for those wishing to maximize style and minimize unnecessary frills.
So, who's brainchild were Ray Bans anyway? Well as the story goes, one John A. Macready developed the progeny of later Ran Ban eye wear back in 1936. While on a balloon trip, Macready irreversibly damaged his eyes by overexposing them to sunlight. Intent on preserving what was left of his eyesight, in order to still be able to enjoy the odd balloon trip, he enlisted the help of Bausch and Lomb.
Together they created stylish sun wear that would also have the then unheard of, but present day norm, UV protection. Bausch and Lomb patented their UV protection in 1937 and Ray Ban were off and running with their first pair of lightweight, yet stylish sunglasses, replete with the worlds first Anti-Glare protection. What a way to turn crisis into opportunity, Mr Macready!
In an ironic twist, Jon A. Macready's loss was our gain. Is it even imaginable today to contemplate the purchase of sunglasses that don't have UV protection? Furthermore, is it even conceivable to purchase a pair of sunglasses that are not as stylish as a pair of Ray Bans? Even the US Air force enlisted the help of Ray Ban to design their now famous, Aviators. These iconic glass have produced so many memorable images over past decades too. Just think about the pictures of Douglas MacArthur, triumphantly standing on that Philippine beach after vanquishing the Japanese troops. His eye wear of choice that day was none other than a classic pair of Ray Ban Aviators.
Amazingly, the original Ray Ban aviators are still available to this day and they have gone on to become the biggest selling sunglasses ever. But this is not the end of Ray Ban's contribution to great looking sunglasses. There is also the classic Wayfarer, to take into consideration. These classic frames have never gone out of style since their introduction in 1952. Like a pair of Aviators, the Ray Ban Wayfarers are a style that you just can't go wrong with. Ray Ban offers the highest quality eye wear and the most tasteful styling in the industry, whether it for vision correction or a day at the beach.
